Blubeckers, Wedding Venue ReviewBlubeckers Mill HouseBlubeckers Mill House
Blubeckers Mill House is an unusual wedding venue, it's a fairly small venue with the sort of grounds you would normally associate with a much larger venue. The grounds feature a boating lake which makes for a good backdrop and around the lake is a nice Green, while a large tree at the far end of the lake makes for another great backdrop. There is also a nice terraced area which can be used to still get outside when the ground is damp or wet following a period of rain. A huge benefit for couples whose families have children is the play area within the grounds set next to the terraced area. From here parents can keep an eye on the kids having fun in the park while they sip champagne or pimms on the terrace. The location of the play area is very well thought out, putting the terraced area with lots of watchful mums and dads between it and the boating lake so parents with small children can relax a little. The interior of Blubeckers Mill house has a lot of character, I particularly like the room reserved for weddings on the lower ground level. This room has very tall leaded windows creating some beautiful light and with an overlooking balcony provides opportunities to shoot from both the ground and a birds eye level. My only very small gripe about the venue is the room where they hold the ceremony, which features a large window at one end which the bride and groom are placed in front of. This creates a backlit situation when shooting from the rear which is not ideal. To be fair this is easily overcome by shooting from the front and from this position actually creates a very nice key light. The only negatives to this are that not all registrars will allow a photographer to shoot from this position and of course it means I will be within your line of sight during the ceremony, which some couples may find distracting. In summary I really like Blubeckers Mill House, it fills a niche in the market that has been unfulfilled up until now and fills it spectacularly well. For a couple wanting a smaller informal wedding without the pomp and price tag of a 4 star hotel but who still want the option to have their reception and photographs outside in beautiful grounds than Blubeckers is definitely worth short listing for consideration. |
